If you’re looking for a free metronome app for your Android device, look no further than Metronome by Soundbrenner.
While all the metronome apps I’ve ever tested keep perfectly good time, Metronome by Soundbrenner rises above the rest for two reasons:
- User Interface
An app does not have to look pretty to be good, but some metronome apps make me wonder just how bad can an app look? I can ignore a few rough edges, but it becomes a problem when an app is designed so poorly as to be difficult to navigate, or even confusing to use.
Metronome by Soundbrenner makes it easy to start improving your time with the core metronome features laid out in a logical order with no distractions on one screen. While the app has more offerings, this main screen alone makes this my favorite metronome app.
The world of metronome apps is plagued by terrible sounding, grating clicks, cowbells, and other unpalatable bleeps and bloops, but Metronome by Soundbrenner‘s default woodblock sound cuts through the noise without instantly fatiguing your eardrums. But if that’s not your style, there are several more choices (some better than others) in the settings menu.
The app does offer many more complex features like custom saved songs and setlists, DAW synchronization, and even a wearable device, but I use this app because it nails the basics better than any other I’ve tested so far.
